In the final week of October Hattie Briggs (guitar, piano, vocals) and Dan Cassidy will visit The Netherlands. Despite her young age, the British singer Hattie Briggs is deeply rooted in the old folk tradition. Recently she released Red & Gold, a title that refers to the Autumn Leaves of this season. This album reached number 1 on the Digital Folk Chart. Briggs received favourable reviews: ‘If you appreciate well written music, sung beautifully and played exquisitely then this will definitely be something for you,’ and ‘her incredible melancholic voice and range sits on the cello like an extra string,’ British music critics wrote.
Hattie Briggs was inspired by the music of Eva Cassidy. The influence of the talented American singer who attained world fame years after her premature death in 1996 is clear. Dan Cassidy contributed on several recordings of his sister Eva. On Red & Gold Dan plays the violin on several songs and he produced the album together with Peter Waterman (Joss Stone).
The last words that Eva Cassidy spoke to her brother were: ‘You are a good musician and you can play with anyone.’ What a privilege that Dan Cassidy does so with Hattie Briggs in Zoetermeer at Open Ichtus on October 23rd.
